How to be a good plant-parent

plante

Who are you?

Before even starting to think about adopting a plant, it’s important to know who you are! Indeed, any relationship starts with a deep understanding of yourself as a person, even if it’s your relationship with a plant!

The first step for this adoption process: a quick quiz to understand what type of plant-parent you are!

QUIZ

  1. Do you have a pet?
    1. Yes, a cat or a dog that I feed and walk regularly
    2. Yes, a fish that doesn’t require too much attention, but adds a little bit of life to my space
    3. No, I don’t have time to take care of a pet
  2. How often do you travel?
    1. Less than once a year
    2. Once or twice a year
    3. More than a couple times a year
  3. In your free time, what do you prefer to do?
    1. Stay home and relax
    2. Do a little shopping and go to the movies
    3. Go on an adventure! Hiking, last-minute escapades, anything spontaneous!
  4. Be honest: How organized is your workspace?
    1. Very organized: my files are colour-coded, my pens never leave their case and even my coffee cup is promptly washed and put away as soon as I finish it.
    2. Pretty organized: I’m not a robot, but my things are where they should be. I have a couple post-it notes here and there, and I have to search for some phone numbers once in a while, but I can always find what I’m looking for.
    3. Not organized: I’m very rarely sat at my desk, so we mostly see a pile of documents, snacks and knick-knacks… But I love this atmosphere! I feel trapped when everything is too neat.
  5. What would be your ideal vacation?
    1. A well-planned itinerary filled with the most important tourist attractions of the region
    2. A relaxed week with a couple tourist-y activities, but we’ll see when I get there if I still feel like it
    3. Excursions, hidden temple visits, camping in the Amazonian Forest… Anything yo keep me on my toes
  6. Let’s talk about friendship: How often do you see your closest friends?
    1. We see each every two weeks on Friday for lunch!
    2. We generally see each other every few months when one of us thinks to call the other one and we find common free time!
    3. I’m so busy that I usually give a quick call once in a while and stop by their office without notice!
  7. Now, your style: how would you describe your fashion sense?
    1. A good mix of quality pieces that I take care of and that are good for any occasion
    2. I have a couple pieces that are worse for wear, but I change up my wardrobe quite often to fit my style and get rid of damaged clothing
    3. An eclectic mix of styles and colours! I have a lot of pieces I’ve never worn, but I’m sure these orange disco-pants will come in handy at some point…

The perfect plants for you

FOR THE ATTENTIVE AND ORGANIZED

The best choice: whimsical plants!

You’re lucky to have the level of attention to detail that you do! You can take care of the most difficult plants. All potted flowers or ivy will be happy in your presence, since they require a lot of attention and they love to be spoiled. The more you pay attention to it, the more beautifully it will bloom: the perfect partnership!

FOR THE CASUAL AND FREE

The best choice: green plants!

Leafy plants are the perfect companions for people who are ready to take care of a plant, but don’t want to stick to a too-rigorous routine. This type of plant isn’t bothered by water every three days or every week, they only want to be well lit and not forgotten.

FOR THE DARING AND BUBBLY

The best choice: succulents and cacti!

You probably saw this coming, but with your lifestyle, the plants you adopt need to be able to survive to very little attention for long periods of time. Cacti and succulents can survive with a little light and water once in a while, provided you don’t forget about them!

The plant of your dreams! (and how to take care of it)
